Mino – Support

Welcome to Mino — photograph the animals you spot and collect them in your own field guide. Here you'll find answers to common questions and ways to get help.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mino?

Take a photo of an animal and Mino tells you what it is, with a short field guide entry about it. Each sighting keeps its date and place, and sightings of the same kind of animal are grouped into one entry in your Dex.

Do I need an account?

No. Mino has no sign-in. It asks for the camera, to take photos, and for your location while you use the app, to put sightings on your map. Both are optional: you can pick photos from your library and set or skip the location yourself.

Where do my photos go?

Your Dex stays on your iPhone. When you identify a sighting, its photos are sent without their location or other metadata to Mino's server, which asks Anthropic's Claude what animal they show. The photos aren't stored once the answer comes back. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

Can I add photos I already took?

Yes. Choose them from your library in Mino, or share them to Mino from Photos or any other app with Add to Mino. If a photo has its own date and location, Mino uses them for the sighting.

What happens when I have no signal?

Mino doesn't try to identify the animal. It saves the sighting with its photos, date and place, and shows it under Waiting to identify at the top of your Dex. It's identified automatically when you're back online.

Why is a different breed a separate entry?

For domestic animals, Mino treats each breed as its own entry, so a golden retriever and a dalmatian don't end up in the same one. Wild animals are grouped by species.

It got the animal wrong. Now what?

Open the sighting and identify it again, ideally with a clearer photo or a few photos from different angles. Identification is best-effort: never use it to decide whether an animal is safe to approach or touch.

Is there a limit?

Yes, a generous daily number of identifications per device. If you reach it, try again the next day.

Troubleshooting

  • "Couldn't identify this photo" or another error Check your connection and try again from the sighting. A clearer, closer photo of the animal helps. Tap the error for details you can send to support.

  • A sighting stays in "Waiting to identify" Make sure you're online, then open the sighting and tap Identify Now. If it shows an error, that sighting won't retry on its own.

  • Sightings don't appear on the map Allow location access for Mino in iOS Settings, or open the sighting and set its location by hand.

  • "Add to Mino" doesn't appear in the share sheet Scroll to the end of the app row in the share sheet, tap More, and enable Mino.

  • Crashes or unexpected behaviour Make sure you're on the latest version, then get in touch with your device model and iOS version.

Feedback & Feature Requests

Mino is actively developed, and feedback genuinely shapes what gets built next — including animals it keeps getting wrong.
